THE KING'S SPEECH (2011)

Prince Albert (Colin Firth) memang tak pernah berharap menjadi raja Inggris. Ia tahu benar keterbatasan yang ia miliki. Tak mungkin ia memimpin

sebuah negara sebesar Inggris sementara berbicara di depan umum saja sudah jadi perjuangan berat buatnya. Celakanya takdir berkata lain dan Albert harus segera naik tahta.

Untuk mengatasi kekurangannya ini, Prince Albert lantas mencoba mengikuti terapi dari Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Lionel Logue punya metode yang aneh namun nyatanya metode ini berhasil menyembuhkan Prince Albert dari gagapnya. Sepeninggal Raja George V (Michael Gambon), Prince Edward (Guy Pearce) yang seharusnya naik tahta memilih menikahi Wallis Simpson (Eve Best) dan itu membuatnya tidak memenuhi syarat sebagai seorang raja.

Kini tiba saatnya buat Prince Albert untuk mengambil alih tampuk kekuasaan. Albert tahu kalau itu bukan urusan mudah, apalagi Perang Dunia II sudah di depan pintu. Ia harus mampu menyembuhkan gagapnya secara total. Dan itu tak akan berhasil seandainya tak ada Lionel Logue, terapis dengan metode aneh yang ternyata sangat efektif. Konon, sepanjang pemerintahan Raja George VI, Lionel Logue selalu hadir setiap sang raja berpidato.

PATHFINDERS : IN THE COMPANY OF THE STRANGER (2011)

The movie tracks different groups of soldiers as the come together to execute the mission. One of my favorite parts of the film is how the pre-jump tension is

portrayed between the groups and individually.

In the hours leading up to the mission, the soldiers each respond a little differently to the stress of anticipating jumping into battle and possible death. I enjoyed seeing the men joke or panic or pray to cope with their stress. This seemed quite realistic and gave a lot of depth to the characters.

Also, most of the WWII movies I have seen have been huge Hollywood blockbusters. I enjoyed seeing an independent filmmaker tackle the challenge of a war film on an indie budget. The look of the movie was dark and gritty, just like I would imagine war would be. The fighting scenes were shot close up, so I felt like I was part of the action. The battle scenes included a lot of hand-to-hand combat and close range fighting, so it felt like battle. A very different experience from movies I've seen about modern-day warfare like Hurt Locker. I liked feeling like part of the action in Pathfinders.

An added treat in this film was seeing Michael Connor Humphreys back in the movies and all grown up. As far as I know, he hasn't done any screen acting since he played young Forest Gump 15+ years ago, and his Livingston character was one of the most interesting in the film.(imdb)

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

ilm ini bercerita tentang kehidupan Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) yang lahir di tahun 1860. Kelahiran Benjamin tergolong aneh karena saat lahir tubuhnya menunjukkan

tubuh pria berusia 70 tahun, tapi fisiknya tetap seorang bayi. Saat masih bayi Benjamin dibuang oleh ayahnya karena merasa malu dengan kejadian aneh ini. Ibunya sendiri meninggal saat melahirkan Benjamin

Akhirnya Benjamin dirawat oleh seorang pengasuh di rumah panti jompo. Semakin hari usianya semakin bertambah, namun fisik dan kesehatannya malah semakin baik dan makin sehat. Benjamin mengalami pembalikan proses penuaan. Dari usia 70 tahun, perlahan Benjamin tumbuh menjadi lebih muda.

Sejak kecil Benjamin telah jatuh cinta kepada Daisy (Cate Blanchett). Pada usia 18 tahun, Benjamin memutuskan untuk pergi dan bekerja di sebuah kapal dan pergi ke berbagai tempat dan mengirimkan kartu pos kepada Daisy dari tempat-tempat tersebut. Daisy sendiri menjadi penari yang juga melakukan pertunjukkan di berbagai dunia.

Saat mereka bertemu kembali, Daisy begitu kaget ketika melihat Benjamin yang terlihat muda seperti usia 50-an tahun. Setelah melalui proses pergi dan kembali akhirnya mereka berdua memutuskan untuk hidup bersama. Semakin hari, Benjamin terlihat semakin muda dan Daisy tentunya semakin tua. Karena itu Benjamin juga ragu saat mereka akan memiliki anak karena anaknya akan terlahir tua seperti dia. Namun apa yang ditakutkannya tidak terjadi dan anaknya terlahir dengan normal dan diberi nama Caroline. Namun Benjamin kemudian memutuskan untuk pergi, karena dia tidak ingin melihat Caroline tidak memiliki ayah yang semestinya.

10 tahun kemudian Benjamin datang kembali dan melihat Daisy yang kini berusia 60-an dan Benjamin yang tampak berumur 20 tahun. Daisy sendiri telah memiliki suami baru dan Caroline menganggap itu sebagai ayahnya dan tidak mengenali Benjamin.

Bagaimana kisah selanjutnya??? Apakah yang akan terjadi dengan Benjamin seiring dengan terus bertambah usianya???
